Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage can help you adjust to the changes occurring your body during pregnancy.

The massage can help to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Reduce swelling in the arms and legs
  • Relieve muscle and joint pain
  • Increase and improve the lymphatic system
  • Lower anxiety and help to sleep better

Pregnancy massage can involve various techniques.  The pressure is adjusted to suit the mother's comfort level.

In the first trimester the massage can be given to women without contraindications.  Please ask your GP or obstetrician if you have any doubts. The second and third trimester massages will involve either side-lying position or on the belly with the use of a pregnancy massage pillow.  Keep Moving Massage therapists are qualified in the modality and understand which positions are healthy during your treatment.

Please avoid treatment if:

  • Your doctor recommends avoiding the treatment (sometimes recommended in the first trimester)
  • You have nausea or vomiting
  • You are high risk of miscarriage
  • You have a high risk pregnancy (such as preeclampsia or high blood pressure)
  • You have a blood clot, ie. deep vein thrombosis
  • You have abdominal pain or bleeding
